Re-applying for future roles

It is for Scottish Government to determine how often they will recruit for the roles that the JABS deals with. The recruitment process begins when the Judicial Office and Scottish Courts and Tribunals request us to run a recruitment exercise, in our case, a competition for certain vacancies. The vacancy request sets out how many roles are available, jurisdiction and. There is no fixed pattern as to how often roles will arise and will depend on several factors from attrition (retirement, resignation, death, promotion), increase in judicial roles, workload, budgets and more.

As a result, JABS cannot determine how often a round will present itself nor can we recommend candidates for future rounds if unsuccessful in a previous round. We receive notification from Judicial Office when needs arrive and have been approved by Scottish Government.

I have applied before – can I apply again?

Yes. We cannot determine if you should or shouldn’t apply again but you are welcome to do so. JABS aims to provide direct and insightful feedback for applicants to consider how they could improve their application to determine if they wish to reapply to another role.  You should consider this carefully.

Can I use the same application?

We recommend that you consider any feedback that you have been given and ensure you have answered the questions carefully and in line with the role profile. Note that whilst a role may have the same title, there may be certain experiences and qualities that are highlighted relevant to a particular jurisdiction

I was selected for interview the in a previous round, will I get to that stage again?

It is important to note, that every application is measured on it’s own merits in the course of the round. If you have applied before, that will have no bearing on your success, or not, in progressing in the new round. You will be assessed in that competition as per our obligations which can mean that you could be selected for interview in one round but not in another, even if for the same role. Matters that may be considered in the selection process could be location, number of applications, skills and qualities and expertise.

Will I receive feedback if I apply again and I’m unsuccessful?

You can ask for feedback at the shortlisting stage or post interview stage and we endeavour to make this as insightful as practicable.

If I narrowly missed out the last time, will I be put on a reserve list?

JABS do not operate a reserve list process. Only if a candidate turns down an offered position, would we revert to the next meritorious candidate.
