Recommendation Process
Once the Board makes its recommendation for appointment to the First Minister, it is for the First Minister, after consulting the Lord President, to recommend to His Majesty the appointment of a person as a judicial office holder.
A successful applicant will be contacted by Scottish Government Justice Directorate officials when the statutory consultation with the Lord President has concluded, for an update and to confirm personal details to be included in the Royal Warrant.
A successful applicant will then be advised in strictest confidence that their name has been sent forward to the Palace. A public announcement of the appointment will be made only after His Majesty has signed the Royal Warrant of Appointment.
The timescales may vary but in general terms can take a number of weeks to complete.
